23db Records Signs Burikusu!!!
23db Records, the independent electronic music label run by Assemblage 23's Tom Shear, is proud to announce the addition of Sweden's Burikusu!!! to the label's roster.   The band will release their debut album, entitled 2080, on 23db Records later this fall as both a physical CD and via digital distribution.

Burikusu!!! is the brainchild of Claes Johanson (creator of the critically acclaimed Vember Audio Surge softsynth and DSP programmer for Ableton Live) and Timmy Nilsson (another refugee from Ableton).   Musically, the band is a highly technical mix of stuttering rhythms, haunting melodies, and severely manipulated vocals, all the while fearlessly melding elements of IDM, synthpop, hip-hop, experimental, and even straight up pop.   The result is an astonishing melange of futuristic beats and forward-thinking programming that gracefully leaps over the cutting edge and bravely forges ahead into previously uncharted terrirtories.

But enough of the label hyperbole.   Check them out for yourself at:

Thanks for the Kind Wishes!
As some of you may have heard, Tom spent last weekend in the hospital to get his appendix removed. The surgery went smoothly and recovery has been amazingly fast, no doubt in part to all the wonderful emails and positive thoughts from all of you A23 fans. So thank you very much for that! Tom expects to get back to the studio again and back on track by next week!

Thank You, Europe!

A big, belated thank you to all who came out to support us at our recent string of shows in Europe. Turnouts were great all around and we had a fantastic time despite the jetlag! A23 is going to be taking a break from doing live shows for awhile so work can commence on the next album.

2 New Shirt Designs Coming Soon!

2 new Assemblage 23 shirts will be available through the Assemblage 23 Online Store the first week in August. The first is a Limited Edition (100 shirts only) Assemblage 23 "Army" t-shirt featuring a weathered A23 logo and the band's name in black ink on olive drab t-shirts.

The second, due to popular demand, is a shirt design for "Damaged". This is a two-sided shirt (the back features a small A23 logo up near the neckline) on black t-shirts with the name of the band & song and a cool 'shattering head' image.

We'll open up pre-orders a week before we expect to have them onhand to ship.

Both shirts will be available in S, M, L, and XL sizes and will cost $15.99 each. Please note there are still some of the Meta "DNA" t-shirts left in some sizes, and once they are gone, they will not be reprinted, so grab 'em while you can!

Lost Signal Debut to be Re-released Digitally on 23db Records
In 2001, Philadelphia’s Lost Signal burst into the scene with the critically acclaimed debut “Catharsis”. Packed with memorable hooks and deeply emotional lyrics, critics and fans alike praised the one man act and “Catharsis” became a cult hit among lovers of melodic electronics. As those familiar with the band’s history are aware, sole band member Charles Rehill then took a nearly 5 year hiatus before entering the studio again. The resulting album, “Eviscerate”, was released on Tom Shear’s 23db label where it quickly became the label’s best-selling release to date and saw the band surpass the notoriety it had already built up 5 years earlier. As people started rediscovering Lost Signal, demand for the long out-of-print debut album rose and many fans found themselves frustrated with the difficulty of locating a copy.

Soon, the demand became too great to ignore, and after multiple conversations between Shear and Rehill, it was decided a re-release of the debut album was in order. Not content to simply reissue the original album as is, Shear took the original recordings and mixed them again from the ground up, giving the tracks a more moden sound using current techniques and equipment. The end result is a refreshing revision of “Catharsis” complete with new artwork by photographer Michelle Black, and mastering by John Sellekaers. An absolute must for any fan of Lost Signal, new or old!

Look for this special digital-only release soon on iTunes U.S., iTunes Australia/New Zealand, iTunes Canada, iTunes UK/European Union, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, Groupie Tunes, Amazon MP3, and Lala! An exact release date isn't possible for us to give presently given how our digital distribution works, but expect it to be available around the end of May. People in the Philadelphia area can catch Lost Signal live at Dracula's Ball @ Shampoo Nightclub on May 24th, 2008. The club is located at 7th and Willow in Philadelphia and is an all ages event. Tickets are $15 and are available through Ticketmaster, IsoTank and Digital Ferret CDs (215-925-9259)

Happy New Year's & The Blueprint for 2008
Things have been a bit quiet here on the website lately, so I thought I would take the time not only to wish all the A23 fans out there a wonderful New Year's, but to give an update on what is to come in 2008.

• Live - As many of you probably already know, A23 did the most touring we've ever done in a year in 2007. We visited many of the usual haunts such as Germany, the US, the UK, and beyond, but we also visited places like Russia, Australia, Serbia, and Bulgaria for the very first time. These were all amazing experiences we will never forget, but 2008's live roster will be much lighter. It's time to get back into the studio and working on new material. Most of the shows we will be doing next year are now listed on the LIVE page. It is unlikely we will be doing many more shows than what is already listed. Sorry if that is disappointing to anyone, but we need a break from the road, and, I suspect, the road probably needs a break from us too.

• Assemblage 23
- In the coming days, I will be getting started on the next Assemblage 23 album. I already have some pretty promising little snippets I threw together on the road and I'm excited to see how they develop into full-fledged songs. I don't have a title or even a release date in mind at this point (way too early), but I will make that info available as I figure it out myself.

• Nerve Filter -
I've been working on some new Nerve Filter stuff as well, but I am not sure whether it will get finished or not. Although critically well-received, the last album sold extremely poorly and it may simply be that the appeal of the project is too narrow to release viably. We'll see...

• 23db Records -
It's been awhiile since there has been news from 23db, so I am happy to announce we have some cool stuff coming out in 2008. First off, we'll have a couple digital-only releases. One is the amazing return of a cult act from the 1990's... the other is a completely remixed and remastered version of another cult classic album. I'll get into specifics about the who's and what's when we get closer to the release dates. Also coming in the new year will be the third album from Lost Signal (which will be available in both CD and digital formats). Again, no idea on a release date, but we are hoping for a fall release.

Assemblage 23 and 23db Records CD Fan Packs Now Available

Get all 5 Assemblage 23 albums for $50 (save almost $20!) or all 3 23db Records releases for $30 (save over $10!). Please visit the LIVE section for complete listings of A23's upcoming shows in Russia, Europe, and Australia!

Shirts/Hoodies Update
As mentioned previously, A23 sold out its shirt inventory on the recent US tour. Replacements were ordered immediately upon returning, but since this is a busy season for printers, the replacement shirts just shipped from the plant this evening. Unfortunately, they will not arrive until the band has already left for Russia, so the STORE section will be offline until the band returns on December 18th, at which time the new shirts and hoodies will be available to order. However, since the band leaves again on December 25th for Australia, it will only be online for a short time. Expect the STORE to go back online again at the beginning of January. In the meantime, CD (including the limited edition A23 Rarities CD), poster, and sticker orders are available on the site until December 4th.

A23 Completes US Tour
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us on our recent US tour! This was for sure the most challenging tour we've ever had (multiple last minute venue changes, a van breakdown, a couple cancellations, a deadbeat promoter in the midwest, tornadoes in Kansas, a blizzard and 22 hour drive out of Denver...), but the energy and enthusiasm we got back from the fans at the shows made it all worthwhile. It was a pleasure meeting so many of you and we look forward to when we can hit the road in the US again. For now, however, we have a number of other shows coming up in Mexico, Russia, Europe, and Australia. Check out the LIVE page later this week for full details.

Assemblage 23 Rarities CD Now Available To Buy Online
As promised, we reserved some copies of the tour-only "Early, Rare, and Unreleased (1988-1998)" CD for those of you who live outside the US or who could not attend a show to pick up a copy. Because of the two cancelled shows on the tour (due to van failure), we actually even have some extra on top of what we reserved. These will probably still go fast, however, so don't wait to place your order. Once these are gone, they're gone! Order yours now through the Assemblage 23 Online Store.

El Paso Venue Change
Yet another venue has closed its doors, so we have had to move the El Paso show originally scheduled to be at Lucky Devil's. The show will now be held at Chic's located at 9809 Montana Ave.
El Paso, TX. All other details remain the same.

9/4/07
Tulsa Oklahoma Venue and Line-Up Change
Mooch & Burn, the venue originally listed for A23's upcoming Tulsa show has announced it is closing, so the show has been moved to a new venue. The new venue is Blue Dome, 311 E. 2nd St. in Downtown Tulsa. The good news about this is that instead of being a 21+ show, the show is now ALL AGES! Additionally, Echoing Green has replaced Provision as one of the support acts. For complete A23 US Tour 2007 Info, check out the LIVE page.

8/28/07
Thank You, Europe!
Just a brief note of thanks to all the fans who came out to support us on our recent string of European dates. Despite the grueling schedule, we had a great time & met some very cool people. The US Tour starts in a little more than a week! Check the dates here...

Philadelphia Show Venue Changed
The Assemblage 23 show in Philadelphia will no longer be held at Grape Street due to bouncers at that venue allegedly beating up members of an opening band at the recent Birthday Massacre show there. According to witnesses, members of the band Suicide City got into a dispute over payment with the staff, and the bouncers physically assaulted them (including a female member) and allegedly robbed them.
Obviously, this is not the sort of venue we are interested in playing both for our own safety and for the safety of our fans. Therefore, the Assemblage 23 show will now be held at Whiskey Dix , 7th and Willow (on the side of the Electric Factory) 421 North 7th Street Philadelphia, PA 19123. Tickets will now be made available for purchase at www.intrepidJAM.com. People who have already purchased tickets for the Grape Street show will have their tickets honored at this show, so no worries there.

Assemblage 23 Completes New Remix of "Sorry" For Compilation
Assemblage 23 has completed a new remix of the song "Sorry" (from "Meta", the most recent A23 album) for the upcoming "Elektrisch Volume 3" compilation out on Major Records later this year. The 'RetroElectro' mix mixes extremely punchy drums with a retro-styled bassline, a pumping chorus, and much more to take the song in a different direction from the original.

Assemblage 23 Hits Europe Next Week!
In just a little more than a week, A23 will be arriving in Europe for a series of live shows and festival appearances. Check the "LIVE" page for details on when and where A23 will be playing, as well as info on the upcoming US tour!

Final "Tour Only" CD Details Available
As previously announced, Assemblage 23 will be putting out a special limited edition (1000) CD of new recordings of some of the band's earliest works in conjunction with their upcoming US tour. The CD will only be available on the US tour with the exception of 50 copies which will be available through the Assemblage 23 Online Store around October 24th for any fans outside the US to have the opportunity to grab one.

Because this is expected to be a very in-demand item, there is a strong possibility that a non-limited digital-only release may be made available on iTunes and similar services following the tour. This would have the same tracklisting, but obviously would not include the booklet which has the stories behind each track and never before told anecdotes of A23's early history.

And speaking of track-listings... Because many of these older tracks are shorter than the average current A23 song, the decision was made to add an additional 4 tracks to the CD for a total of 14. The final track listing is as follows:

  1. Live Intro 96
  2. Mortuary
  3. Anger
  4. Chemical Restraint
  5. Straightjacket
  6. Ambush
  7. Soma
  8. The Angels Died
  9. Sometimes I Wish I Was Dead
  10. Underneath the Ice
  11. My Burden
  12. The Fissure King
  13. Void
  14. Reqiuem

Tour Update: Tallahassee, FL Canceled, Richmond, VA Added
We regret to announce that we have had to cancel the Tallahassee date of the upcoming US tour. This was due to the booker at the venue in question not being able to get the signed contract back to us within 6 weeks. The band apologizes to their Tallahassee fans for the inconvenience, but obviously they expect a certain level of professionalism from the people they work with that was not met in this case. In happier news, the last minute addition of a Richmond, VA show has joined the tour roster. To view the full tour listing with additional info, please visit the LIVE section.

Special Tour CD Expanded!
A couple of weeks ago, a special CD of Assemblage 23 early, rare, and unreleased tracks to be exclusively available on the US tour was announced. Originally, this was supposed to be a 10 track CD, but because some of the earlier tracks are a bit shorter than current A23 tracks generally are, the decision was made to add 4 additional tracks to the CD to make it a better value for fans. The final track order has yet to be decided, but the additional tracks, "The Angels Died (1994)", "Straightjacket (1988)", "Anger (1992)", and "Void (1998)" are the new additions. As previously mentioned, the CD is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will only be available on the US tour. To accommodate our fans outside the US, or areas where the tour will reach, 50 copies will be set aside and will be made available through the Assemblage 23 Online Store immediately following the conclusion of the US tour. Expect these to be available on or around October 24th, and don't delay your order, as these will probably go fast!

Assemblage 23 Catalog Available on MySpace Through Snocap
Visitors to the Assemblage 23 MySpace can now digitally buy any track from the band's US discography directly from the MySpace itself via the Snocap service.

AFI Side-Project Single Featuring A23 Remix to be Available at Hot Topic
Blaqk Audio, the new electronic side-project from alternative rockers AFI, will release its first single "Stiff Kittens" on Interscope Records exclusively at Hot Topic on July 31st. In addition to the album mix, the single features remixes from Assemblage 23, Richard Morel, and Junior Sanchez.

7/11/07
Virginia Date Added to Assemblage 23 US Tour
We're happy to announce that we have made a last minute addition to the A23 US tour. The band will be performing in Richmond, Virginia at Alley Katz on October 4th. For more info and the other tour dates, please visit the LIVE page.

More News on the Special 'Tour Only' A23 CD
We've received a large number of emails from fans outside the US upset that the special A23 rarities collection CD would only be available on the US tour (see below for details). The reason for this is mainly that the CDs won't be ready in time for our European dates, and also that the cost of bringing the CDs (between airline overage costs to the border taxes and tariffs) in from the US would be such that we would ultimately end up losing money. So, to give our European, Canadian, and other non-US fans the opportunity to get their hands on a copy, 50 copies of the album will be set aside to go on sale at the Assemblage 23 Online Store immediately after the US tour. Orders will be accepted on or around October 24th.

Assemblage 23 US Tour Dates Posted
The finalized dates for Assemblage 23's upcoming US Tour have been posted in the LIVE section of the website. The extensive tour consists of 25 dates throughout the US, but we do recognize that there are some areas fans would like the band to play that aren't on that list. Namely, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, and Atlanta. Rest assured that the band did try to book shows in these areas, but either a venue was not available for the date needed, or the promoters were unable to meet the band's requirements. We do hope that fans in these cities will be able to attend one of the nearby shows as an alternative, but apologize for the inconvenience. The band has a pretty long set prepared of tracks from every A23 album, including some new versions of older tracks. A23 is not touring with a support act this time around, so all opening acts will be local acts booked by the promoter. What we have of this information is listed in the LIVE section as well. Hope to see lots of you there!

Special Assemblage 23 Rarities Collection to be Available on US Tour

A special 'tour only' rarities collection from Assemblage 23 will be available at the band's upcoming US tour dates. "Assemblage 23: Early, Rare, and Unreleased 1988-1998" is a collection of 10 re-recorded versions of Assemblage 23 tracks from the band's formative days before its 1999 debut "Contempt". The collection even contains a couple of pre-Assemblage 23 tracks from 1988 (when Tom was just 16 years old!). All tracks were recorded using the original synths, samplers, sounds, and sequences, but have been newly recorded digitally for better sound quality (not to mention, many of the original tapes had deteriorated to the point of being unusable). The 10-track collection is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and is expected to sell out entirely on the tour, so if you don't pick one up at the show, you might not have the chance again!

Track listing (order is subject to change):
01.) Live Intro '96 (1996)
02.) Mortuary (1988)
03.) Soma (1992)
04.) My Burden (1997)
05.) Underneath the Ice (1995)
06.) Sometimes I Wish I Was Dead (1988)
07.) The Fissure King (1996)
08.) Ambush (1994)
09.) Chemical Restraint (1992)
10.) Requiem (1998)
